To accommodate our english speaking customers we have decided to organise an English paragliding course. All explanations will be in English! Off course Dutch speaking customers are also welcome on this trip, but be aware that the course language will be English.
Lijak is one of the top flying spots of Paragliding België! This site in Slovenia is just across the border with Italy. Slovenia is a prosperous country with a good infrastructure. The people are very hospitable and friendly. The climate is much better for flying than in Austria, given the favorable location on the south side of the Alps. And worth mentioning: you can eat delicious food for close to nothing!
We will be flying at the beautiful soar and thermic ridge of Lijak. The start and landing are very spacious and therefore ideal for teaching: on this landing field everyone can eventually try to land independently. The flight conditions in Lijak are unique: in the morning you make gliding flights, in the afternoon you can enjoy fantastic thermal flying and by the end of the afternoon you can make amazing soaring flights when the sea breeze kicks in. You can fly for hours in this laminar (turbulence-free) wind. In Lijak, even beginners make long flights during their first week of learning to fly! For advanced students Lijak is the perfect place for making your first cross country flights. The ridge is several tens of kilometers long and with the ever-present thermals you can fly along the ridge a long way. On the way there are always spacious landing areas available.
Accommodation
We will be staying at the Stonehouse. This large stone house is located on the mountain near the takeoff location and offers comfortable 2, 3 and 4 person rooms for the price of 26 euro per person per night + tourist tax, including free internet and use of the washing machine. We have a large shared terrace and a nice BBQ shed with a beautiful view over the valley. We can stay in the house with about 16 people. Accommodation is always in a shared room! A single room is only possible if the group size permits and at a rate of 37 euros per night + tourist tax. We strongly recommend that you read our travel notes carefully, explaining about your stay in the Stonehouse.
We strongly recommend all students to stay in the Stonehouse aswell, this facilitates the organisation of the week. Please write an e-mail to our office after booking the course, specifying the names of the people that will be reserving here (family is also welcome). We book the accommodation for you, you don’t have to do this yourself. The arrival date is always the Saturday before the course (check in after 14:00hr) and the departure date is the Saturday after the course (before noon). Coming earlier or leaving later is usually not possible due to bookings of other groups.
Registering for our Lijak courses is done online. Look in our program overview for the dates of our Lijak courses and then click on 'inschrijven'. After registration you will receive additional information about the course by e-mail.

The most comfortable way to get there is by airplane. Ryan Air, Easyjet and KLM fly to Venice from where it is a comfortable 2 hour train ride to Gorizia. The owner of the Stonehouse can pick you up from the train station for a small fee.
It is certainly possible to get there by car, if you leave early you will manage it in one day from the Netherlands. Apart from the last half hour it is all highway.
You will find important information about your flying trip in the Travel notes: directions, meeting point and time, telephone numbers of hotels and campings.
